What the?

As a teacher, I tend to be constantly amazed at the things that come out of my student's mouths.
Not always is that amazement about something good.

Way too often I've realized that my students say things that are completely inappropriate for their age.
Many times I give them the benefit of the doubt,
Only to find out from their parent that they do know the meaning of the word they said.
I have even had parents question if they called me the word, or simply said it.
I'm sorry, but if I was told my 5 year old was saying curse words at school it wouldn't matter how it was said.

There is of course your fair share of "he said a bad word"
Later to find out that "bad" word was stupid, dumb, poopoo head, etc.
And you get your hilarious phonetic spelling of the word come,
that many times makes me wonder what others think when they come in during writing.

Sadly, you know you're a public school teacher when you've been flicked off and cursed at by your 5 year old students.

Have you ever experienced something outrageous from a little kid?

Fields of Strawberries

One thing I always thought would be cool to do is pick fruit.
Not just from a backyard, but to go to some kind of farm.

Last week, we had off for MLK.
When my mother-in-law mentioned that she was taking my niece strawberry picking I knew I wanted to come!
Kyle and I drove up to a farm not too far from our house.
They not only sold fresh produce, but there were places to pick both strawberries and tomatoes.
It was a really cute place with hay rides, water pump races, and "milking" cows.

We got black buckets and were able to walk through the rows and get strawberries!
Kyle taught our niece that "mutant" berries are best.

We had a great time and were able to come home with lots of yummy strawberries!

I had seen an interesting chocolate strawberry recipe on pinterest that I decided to try.
When you bite into chocolate covered strawberries the chocolate breaks.
This recipe calls for the strawberry to be filled with chocolate.
You hollow out the center of the strawberry.

Then you fill the hollow with chocolate.

They weren't bad in anyway, but you're left with a hard piece of chocolate to bite through.

  Any good strawberry recipes?

Homebody

New Domain Name:
www.thecomewhatmayblog.blogspot.com

I've never been one of those people who like to go out at night.
I'd much prefer to stay at home.
That's not to say that I don't like to hang out with others.
I'd just rather do it in the comfort of my own home.

This past weekend I had to go to an all day work training.
Super not fun.
Saturdays are pretty much my only day off so having to be at a meeting most of the day stinks.
The only plus was that I was able to meet my mom for lunch during it.
8 hours in the same room with a bunch of people I didn't know...not my idea of fun.
Once I got home there was no way I was leaving the house.

That night we had friends over to play Settlers of Catan.
We're real party animals over here.

After getting home from church and lunch Sunday I spent my time like this.
Laying on the couch watching Bones.
I am seriously addicted to that show.

My ideal weekend definitely involves yoga pants, the couch , and tv.
Don't even try to get me out of house once I change into comfy pants.

What's your ideal weekend?

High Five for Friday

These past two weeks have passed by in a blur of nothingness since starting back to work and school.
We both have been extra tired and tend to come home and veg until bedtime.
This really has made it hard for me to think of something to write about.

True to form, I've taken no pictures since we went to Harry Potter world. Sorry!

1. Thank goodness for the long weekend!
It's only been two weeks back and I'm so ready for the break!

2. I'm thankful for having a half day and teacher planning day back to back.
I actually switched out my main bulletin board.
It's been the same all year...
My bad!

3. Recently I've decided that my evenings are best spent like this.
It may or may not have reached the point where I change into pajamas as soon as I get home.
Luckily Kyle wears pajama pants around too.
No judgement in our house.

4. I'm thankful for the cold cooler front that is supposed to be coming through!
80s in January is just too hot.
Especially when my classroom is in the 60s!

5. True to form. I made Kyle an assignment calendar once he got all his syllabi.
He might not appreciate or use it, but at least I feel better.

And A Harry New Year!

Ever since we heard about Harry Potter World Kyle and I have wanted to go.
It just so happened that we had Disney passes when it opened.
Then, one thing led to another and it never happened.
When we started talking about our 1 year anniversary, it was no question.
We purchased season passes and headed up to spend New Years Day with Harry Potter.

Somebody was lucky enough to sleep the whole ride.
I wanted to leave "early" to get there, so I bribed Kyle with being allowed to sleep on the drive.
I typically hate other people sleeping when I'm driving.

We're here!

All the little details made it so wonderful!

Lunch time and our first butterbeer experience!
Regular butterbeer is good, frozen butterbeer is amazing!

 Taking it all in!

We loved all of the decorations in the ride.
I never expected the ride to be scary, but oh my goodness.
Creepy things pop out at you all the time!!
"Why spiders?"

Kyle absolutely loved all of the buildings!
I'm pretty sure half of my photos were just of the chimneys!

Back to Reality

After two blissful weeks of lounge clothes, family, and laziness it's time to face reality.

Today I get to jump back into the hustle and bustle of teaching 18 little ones.
To be honest, I'm a little nervous to go back.
The end of winter break used to mean starting fresh.
New classes, new professors, new schedule.
Now I feel like I'm going to go back and immediately be behind!
There's nothing I hate more than feeling like I'm not prepared.
After two weeks that's exactly how I feel, unprepared.
On the other hand, I'm ready to be back in the swing of things.
I like my schedule and being busy.

This break has been wonderful and I'm thankful that Kyle was able to finish work when I did.
We were able to spend the whole break together.

Today Kyle goes back to school.
We experienced a semester of me being full time in school since we've been married, but never Kyle.
It will definitely be an experience and I hope we adjust to it well.
While it may not be new to him, it will be for me.
Our approach to education has been quite different.
I was that crazy organized person that had my classes color coordinated.
Not to mention my monthly planner, weekly planner, and iCal.
And yes, they were color coordinated to match.
Kyle on the other hand hopefully remembers to check the syllabus.
Big things warrant a phone reminder.
Hopefully my organization and his lack can blend together into a semi-organized semester.

We're also starting back on our diet.
No more crappy holiday snacking gross feeling.
