Pinterest Fails

This past week in our bible study we talked a lot about how women are the heart of the home. 

One thing we discussed was how easy it is to let household chores slide. 

With free time this summer I decided to try and get better at this. 

On pinterest, I found some great ideas for daily chore schedules. 

I love to check things off so this seemed right up my ally. 

After combining a few different ones I finally made one that I think will work well for us. 

 I found the graphic online, I honestly don't remember where, then added all the words.

So this week I've tried to do a really good deep clean.

Hopefully after this week I'll be able to only need a short time each day. 

I turned to pinterest to find some simple homemade cleaning supplies. 

First, I tried this oven cleaner. 

 Here are the before and after pictures. 

I followed the directions and then ended up scrubbing and scrubbing and there's still only a small difference!

Anyone have a better homemade cleaner?

Then, I tired this idea for the microwave. 

It didn't need to much of a cleaning, but I figured less work is always better.

Nothing "easily" wiped away. I still had to work to clean it out. 

Clearly I'm 0/2 on new pinterest cleaning tips this week. 

At least the house is looking good!

The One With the Indoor Sauna

We are finally almost completely unpacked! 

Moving is tough.

It's even harder when you're babysitting a 4 year old, trying to find a job, and doing odd jobs for your parents all at the same time.

 This morning we finally got internet!

Now if hubs will only finish unpacking we'll be done!!

Seriously, why is it that I was able to unpack all of my personal things plus all the kitchen, living room, dining room, etc. yet hubs still hasn't hung up his clothes?

I have learned since we've been married that while I like to unpack and get all organized hubs is perfectly happy living out of his suitcase.

Living Room

Clearly work still needs to be done. We don't have many of the decorations hung up yet and need some rugs and other things to make it home.

Kitchen

After only living with my parents, in dorms, or apartments, this condo has been an experience.

The owners are a really sweet couple, but they definitely have different tastes than us!

For example, we couldn't figure out how to turn the fan on in the living room, the only light there. When we asked them about it they told us that it was one that plugged into the wall but they cut the wire because they didn't want to use the fan! Umm, what?
Thank goodness they are super sweet and willing to pay for us to get it fixed. 

Dining Room

Our first day here I came home from running errands to a pretty warm house. 

Kyle had been out on the patio with our niece and had left the door open so I wasn't too concerned. Until it kept creeping up a degree at a time the rest of the night. 

By morning it was back to where we had it set so we weren't sure what has wrong. 

And then it began creeping up until we had our own indoor sauna. 

Thankfully they replaced the unit because they had fixed whatever the problem was a few times before.

DIY Swiffer Pads

I'm loving this link-up! It makes me actually use my pinterest pins!

We moved into a new place and all but the bedrooms are tile! I love my swiffer, but knew that I would be spending a lot of time and money trying to keep this whole place cleaned. I merged together a few different ideas in order to make homemade dry and wet swiffer pads.

I had some micro fleece left over from making my DIY T-shirt blanket so I used that. You can also use micro fiber cloth.

 

1. Take a dry swiffer pad you already have and lay it on your fabric.

  

2. Cut around the pad to make a rectangle approximately the same size. Repeat! I made 12 because I knew I would be using them for both dry and wet.

  

3. Put on your swiffer using the standard holes. No need to sew if you use micro fleece/fiber!

 

 4. Sweep up those floors! Seriously, I needed this! My floors are a mess, I swear I had vacuummed the whole place the day before!

  

5. For the wet cloth, you can use any solution you already use to mop your floors. I use a mixture of 50% vinegar and 50% water. I mixed them up in a squirt bottle. You can then either spray directly onto a clean cloth or spray on your floor and mop over!

I also added a cute basket to my laundry room where I can place all of the dirty ones before they go in the wash. No dirt getting mixed in with the clothes!

High Five for Friday {5}

This has been a crazy week filled with lots of exciting happenings!

1. Kyle and I moved! Leaving Gainesville after 5 years there was pretty bitter sweet. On one hand, I had a wonderful experience in college and made a lot of great friendships. On the other hand, most of my friends had already left so it wasn't too hard to leave. We're both excited for the next chapter in our lives.

2. This little cutie was born the day we moved home! I'm so excited to live near family so that I can spend time with our newest cousin!

3. Our family has been such a wonderful blessing to us already and I'm so glad we live close. 

4. We've been babysitting our niece this week since she's doesn't have camp the two weeks before school starts. She's been loving building houses out of our moving boxes. 

5. My brother graduates from college today!!

This is the Stuff

 

I like things organized. 

My planner and my iCal are color coded and have my life in them. 

I don't like not having plans.

I like having control.

God has a sense of humor, he gave me Kyle, my complete opposite in this.

He also is constantly trying to teach me to give up control. I constantly struggle against this.

Enter the most unorganized time of my life.

I'm going to be honest, these last few days have been some of my roughest yet. 

We're moving a week from today and currently don't have somewhere to live.

School starts in a month and I haven't had any sort of interview lined up. 

And there's nothing I can physically do to get any of this to happen. 

I wrote before about how we had found a condo and were so excited about it. We're still trying to get the condo, but it seems like one thing after the other keeps getting in our way. I don't doubt that we'll get the condo, it just doesn't look like we'll be in it when we need to be. We filled out the forms, and found out 11 days later that the owner's realtor never sent them to the association. We figured everything out with them and then found out we needed to give them a copy of the lease. We didn't have one because the realtor said the condo had to approve us before the final lease was signed. We found out the association has to meet with us and only meets on Mondays. We have to move Sunday. We get the final lease and are told we have to pay, first, last, and security. All the same price. We had been told first and last. We couldn't afford all three. 

I called my dad sobbing because I had no idea what to do and was so stressed. My dad is not only a minister, but used to work for a company that teaches people about how to handle their money. After helping me figure it all out he says,"I'm glad you're going through this." I'm sorry, what? My dad clarified that he was glad that we were figuring out how to deal with the stress of money and searching for the right solution before doing something dumb in a panic that messed us up even worse. Leave it to my dad to remind me of the blessing in my mess. 

As for a job, I've applied every place that's hiring in my county for my age group. Hopefully someone will call me soon! Jobs were just posted less than two weeks ago, but once again for me, not having a future plan is stressing me out!

 

Family and the 4th

This week we went down to spend time getting stuff figured out before moving. We drove both cars down so we only had to deal with the one while moving. Kyle made fun of me for liking to travel in skirts. What can I say, I like to be comfortable and fashionable!

For the 4th we spent time with my family. We just relaxed for most of the afternoon before going to a party. We actually really enjoyed the party even though it ended up only being my parents friends and the two of us. Afterwards we went to light off fireworks with Kyle's cousins. We had a great time even though Connor "accidentally" shot a firework at us! We actually have no idea what happened, it was shooting off in the air and then suddenly was coming right towards us.

On Thursday we were able to meet with our realtor and look for condos. We found three that we liked, which never happens when we're looking! We put in an offer and they accepted, now we're just waiting for the lease. We're so happy to have it all figured out.

High Five For Friday

Great things from this past week.

1. I've finally started packing up some boxes so we can bring them down when we go see our families next month.

 2. Even though we found a place we loved a few months back, we never signed a lease. The county I'm looking for a job in is huge and I was worried about being really far north and potentially having over an hour commute both ways. Since we weren't going to know where I'll be working till after a lease needs to be signed it was a little nerve wracking. Since then, some things have changed and we decided to look closer to our families. I'm super excited to hopefully be living right between our families, about 15 minutes either way!

3. We also decided to look at condos instead of just apartments, so we're getting a realtor! We can't wait to find someplace and actually make it our own. This apartment has been such an in between place for us.

4. I cut my hair! I never liked the style I had after I donated my hair even though it was exactly what I asked for. Since it's finally grown out I went and got the wedge evened out and added side bangs.

5. I've been really enjoying this summer trying to come up with cute ways to wear clothes that I already own. Almost everyday this week I've worn an old outfit in a new way.
